In Book One of THE BLANCHARDS WITCHES...Who is Dr. Beryl Blanchard?




Beryl Blanchard is the eldest daughter of Demitra and eldest Blanchard grandchild.  She has curly honey blonde shoulder length hair and bright blue eyes like her grandmother.  



Dr. Beryl Blanchard is a leading physician in the state with quite the mysterious reputation.  Her patients rarely die from their ailments.  Her track record is legendary and the stuff of local gossip.  For this reason desperate people with little other hope often seek out Dr. Blanchard for medical care.


Beryl has the power to heal.  With the touch of her hands she summons a great light within her that can heal any disease, broken bone, wound, or common cold--if the person is worthy of such a miracle.  Her power presents her with that knowledge as well.  With her touch she can see the totality of a person's life and the imprint they are leaving upon the world.


Because of her extensive medical training and years of education, Beryl often struggles with the line between being a doctor and a witch.  She knows science.  She understands how the world was created and how advancements in knowledge shaped the world.  But she also knows magic.  She knows a skilled witch can upend the laws of physics and comprehending the power of both keeps her grounded.

  The eldest daughter of Olympia, Artemis Blanchard is in her late forties, however she still looks early thirties with her smooth skin and long raven hair.   Artemis has a very unique power.  She can will things to happen with her mind by simply thinking them.  It is a magnificent gift when properly honed, but it caused its fair share of trouble in her early life until she learned to master it. A Little Blanchard Backstory...

When the first book THE BLANCHARD WITCHES OF DAIHMLER COUNTY begins, the Blanchard family is already long established in the town of Daihmler. They've been here for generations, living in the white three story farmhouse with the wrap around porch and four story tower. Olympia Blanchard is in her seventies and though beloved by her daughters and grandchildren for being the sage old giver of wisdom--Olympia has lived quite a life her offspring are not completely aware of. In her youth, she and her sister Pastoria--and their lifelong friend Zelda, helped many people and saved many lives (and possibly the world) a time or two. Olympia has been married three times by the time readers meet her in Book One. Her first husband, John Windham died shortly after the birth of their third child. The Difference a Book Cover Makes

When I first self-published THE BLANCHARD WITCHES OF DAIHMLER COUNTY I did not know how to come up with my cover.  The Blanchard family is vast with several members, each with their own specific struggle and storyline.  Choosing a character's image for the cover did not seem fair.  Yes, Olympia is the matriarch but her daughters Demitra and Artemis are not simply background characters.  Her grandchildren Beryl, Salem, Seth, Fable, and Yasmine each have their own unique plots within the pages as well.  there was no clear choice as to who the star of the book would be. I could have gone with a witchy theme cover, but my book is different than many in the genre.  It is not at its base a story about witches.  It is a story about a family.  If you were to remove all the magical elements of the story I feel like it is still a compelling tale of love and struggle.  Choosing a supernatural look to the cover would make the book feel gothic in nature, when at its root it is a southern soap
