What is the Difference Between a Solstice and an Equinox?

September 22 is the Fall Equinox and The second book in the Blanchard Series debuts in celebration of it!  But what exactly is an equinox and how does it differ from a solstice?  I'll go on and tell you the answer doesn't reside in the Blanchard books.  The Blanchard series is a little more focused on adventure, drama, humor, and mystery.  I don't go too heavy into the technicalities of the witching world.  However, I can tell you what makes a solstice a solstice and an equinox and equinox.

So everyone knows the Earth rotates on an axis.  That's nothing new.  If it didn't the sun would constantly shine down on the equator, scorching that line into nothingness and we'd have no seasons of the year.  Because the earth bobbles around allowing the sun to shine brightest on varying areas throughout the year, we use markers to delineate time.

There are only two Solstices a year.  The Summer solstice (in June) marks the longest day of the year.  The Winter solstice (in December) marks the shortest day of the year.   The two Equinoxes happen in March and September.  They mark the two days when the sun is directly above the equator.  These are the only two days of the year when the length of daytime and the length of nighttime are exactly the same.

So there you are, the difference between a solstice and an equinox.  It is probably information which will never have any impact on your life at all, but I am full ,of useless information.
